Adopt-A-Bird: Goals and Objectives
Program Overview  •   Why Adopt?  •   Forms  •   Adoptable Birds

Goal:   Increase club and program awareness across state
Objective:  
  • Present public service announcements throughout the year
  • Get listed on more Animal Adoption Lists statewide
  • Establish Reliable contact for Fairbanks and surrounding area
  •  
    Goal:   Increase collaboration with animal and avian rescue groups statewide
    Objective:  
  • Present educational program to least two organizations such as ASPCA, AACCC, Mat Su shelters, Friends of Pets, Petco or other department store staff, The Pet Zoo in Anchorage, Wasilla and Eagle River
  •  
    Goal:   Increase awareness of the problem of Owner Re-Homed birds
    Objective:  
  • Continue to participate in community awareness activities.
  • Provide training and resources to bird owners.
  • Refer to appropriate resources, such as : AACCC, MSAC&R, PEAC, etc.
  •  
    Goal:   Establish an Action Plan for confiscations or mass re-homing
    Objective:  
  • Meet with various response groups such as AACCC, ASPCA, etc.
  • Outline response capabilities: fosters/emergency placements; cages and supplies; vet care.
  •  
    Goal:   Increase number of quarantine/emergency facilities (with no pet birds)
    Objective:  
  • Identify at least three non-bird homes that can be used as a quarantine facility across the state.
  • Provide quarantine training at least once per year at a regular membership meeting.
  • Develop an educational brochure regarding quarantine procedures.
  •  
    Goal:   Increase numbers of potential adopters statewide
    Objective:  
  • Participate in at least three Adoption Awareness events this year.
  • Place ads soliciting adopters via local papers and internet sites.
  • Continue using the Petfinder.com site.
  • Travel to Fairbanks and provide training, inspect foster homes and potential adopter homes
  •  
    Goal:   Increase response capacity to handle the increasing numbers of re-homings
    Objective:  
  • Increase number of Adopt-a-Bird Committee members (maintain minimum number of seven members).
  • Provide trainings for new and existing volunteers at least annually.
  • Continue to increase inventory of available cages, supplies, equipment.
  • Throughout the year, solicit donations of cages and equipment for emergencies and for sale.
