The President's Perch December 2006

As 2006 is drawing to a close, I thought it might be good to reflect on what The Alaska Bird Club has been doing over the past twelve months.  In many ways, this is a time of thanks for having the opportunity of working with a great board and general membership.

My personal thank you for…

May chili cook-off fundraiser:  each of the chili cooks and all of there delicious participation.

July’s Member Appreciation Picnic.  Fun and food were had by all who attended.

Susan and David Allen’s continuing support of providing the monthly meeting break items, control of the donation table; and their leadership for organizing the picnic, seminar, and Christmas events.

Cindy Welbourne as Treasurer and Adopt-A-Bird Chair for a financially successful 7th Annual Speaker Seminar and year in general, and for handling the influx of birds into the Adopt-A-Bird Program and dealing with their immediate medical needs

Leanna Rein as Vice President for leading the first revisions of the club Bylaws and Standing Rules since 1990 as well as revisions of club Policies and Procedures in response to our changing environment; for the rescue of Freeman and Reka from the Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center and their successful placement; for the rescue of the Mat-Su Valley birds with Cindy Welbourne; and for the continuing work being done to place the birds in forever homes

Jennifer Slaughter for her creativity and flexibility when the newsletter deadlines were rapidly approaching and I didn’t have my column written.  And a special thanks to both Jen and Angela for hosting Dr. Lisa Paul, DVM during her stay in Anchorage.

Brent Keay for obtaining a REALLY large grill for the Membership Appreciation Picnic that made preparing the burgers, dogs and brats a really easy task.

Amber O’Neill, Gary Wallan and the Lost/Found-Rescue members for all their great bird rescue and tree climbing skills....Remember “Keep your eyes on the Birdie” and “…trim those wings!”

Lin and Karl Westgard for all their hard work and contributions to the September Seminar.

Diane Richards for presenting the Bird Nutrition

Ann Taylor for putting together the “Companion Bird Baskets” each month and for her endless support.

Each and every member that contributed to make this the best Alaska Bird Club possible.
